Presented by Patricia Bowyer, EdD, MS, OTR, FAOTA; Hany Ngo, MOT, OTR; and Jessica Kramer, PhD, OTR Earn .6 AOTA CEU (7.5 NBCOT PDUs/6 contact hours) Course Description Introducing practitioners to The Short Child Occupational Profile (SCOPE) assessment tool, this new continuing education course provides occupational therapy professionals with a systematic way to document a child's motivation for occupations, habits and roles, skills, and environmental supports and barriers. In a holistic approach to documenting a child's occupational strengths and challenges, the SCOPE enables practitioners to focus on participation and can be used with children and youth ages birth to 21 in a range of practice contexts, such as school, home, inpatient and community practice settings. With ratings based on each child's unique developmental trajectory, SCOPE can capture the strengths and challenges of children of all abilities. Presented in 2 parts with specific learning objectives for each, Part I introduces the theoretical concepts underlying the SCOPE and presents several methods for gathering information for ratings and familiarizes practitioners with the SCOPE rating scale and items. A video case has been included along with a written case summary. Part I examines goal writing and the application of the SCOPE and builds on the video case study presented in Part I. Participants will be able to interpret the SCOPE rating, use the knowledge to develop goals and interventions that are theory based and occupation centered, and become familiar with resources that support participation-focused goal-writing and planning interventions based on the Model of Human Occupation. The SCOPE is required text for successful completion of the course and is included in the content. It may be printed in its entirety or by sections as needed.
Horowitz, Paul: - Paul Horowitz is Professor of Physics at Harvard University, where he originated the Laboratory Electronics course in 1974, from which emerged The Art of Electronics. He was one of the pioneers of the search for intelligent life beyond the Earth, and one of the leaders behind SETI. Other research interests include observational astrophysics, x-ray and particle microscopy, and optical interferometry. He is the author of some 200 scientific articles and reports, has consulted widely for industry and government, and is the designer of numerous electronic and photographic instruments.
