ART OF FAERY by Brian Froud

The huge popularity of fairies in art is celebrated in this title which features the creations of the best artists working in the US, Europe and Japan. There are a huge variety of styles to appeal to a wide range of tastes, from the gothic fantasies of Amy Brown to Myrea Pettit's gentle, playful creatures. Some of the newer artists have rebelled against the old traditions or turned them on their heads. Others celebrate the inheritance left them by masters of the craft, such as Arthur Rackham and Cicely Mary Baker. All media are represented: watercolour, pen and ink, oil, pastel. Each artist presents his or her favourite pieces, showing what best represents their work, revealing their inspirations and techniques, their working methods and what drives them to create.
As a hobby in 1990 David Riche set up a website and dedicated it to the fairy art world. Driven by the discovery of talented and creative artists worldwide the website became a full time occupation - dedicated to individual creative abilities with a flair and passion for their fairy art. Aside from this David has worked in the fashion, cosmetics, design, theatre and film industries and is well travelled. David lives in Northampton, UK.
