At the end of her description of the Battle of Culloden, Wedgwood movingly alludes to the impending threat of a German invasion and the airmen caught up in the Battle of Britain who "left the quivering air signed with their honour."
Dame Cicely Veronica Wedgwood (1910 - 1997) was an English historian who published under the name CV Wedgwood. Specializing in the history of 17th-C England and Continental Europe, her biographies and narrative histories "provided a clear, entertaining middle ground between popular and scholarly works.
