The tank went on to become an important feature in World War II and in modern warfare. The author tells of the experiments, the design and production of the early tanks and their use in the battlefield up to and beyond the Armistice.
David Fletcher had been the librarian at the Tank Museum at Bovington for almost twenty years. He is a leading authority on tanks and he drove the Tank Museum's 1917 Mark IV for the BBC TV series Soldiers. He has appeared in many television programmes and has written numerous books and magazine articles.
