Cat and the Stinkwater War by Kate Saunders

At first glance there's nothing special about the little white stone which Cat's archaeologist father gives her. But then, Cat makes a catastrophic discovery. The stone does have amazing powers. Power to take her away from bullying Emily Baines. Power to turn her into someone graceful, fast and agile. Power to turn her into a CAT! But all is not well in the feline world, for the cats' symbol of nationhood, the Blessed Sardine has gone missing. And the only one who can find it is a small marmalade cat called Cat!
Kate Saunders worked as an actress until she was twenty-five and then became a writer. She is the author of six novels for adults and has edited one collection of short stories. For children, she has written the very successful BELFRY WITCHES series on which a major BBC TV series was based, and CAT AND THE STINKWATER WAR, described as 'lively and delightful' by The Times. As a journalist she has worked for the Sunday Times, the Daily Telegraph, the Independent and the Sunday Express, and she can also be heard regularly on Radio 4. She lives with her family (and three cats) in London.
