A Child of Books by Sam Winston
Winner of the prestigious international Bologna Ragazzi Award for Fiction 2017 "A gorgeous homage to the power of the written word" Guardian "A fresh and fascinating collaboration between two gifted masters" The New York Times In this inspiring, lyrical tale about the rewards of reading and sharing stories, a little girl sails her raft "across a sea of words" to arrive at the house of a small boy. There she invites him to come away with her on an adventure. Through forests of fairy tales and across mountains of make-believe, the two travel together on a fantastical journey that unlocks the boy’s imagination. Now a lifetime of magic lies ahead of him… But who will be next?“[…] highly original picture book.” * The Bookseller, Children’s Previews *
Combining elegant illustrations by Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston’s astonishing typographical landscapes , this is the perfect picture book for Christmas. * Toppsta, Book of the Month *
The beauty and power of children’s books is the subject of A Child of Books, which reads as much as a poetic manifesto as it does a story. -- Celina Ribeirom * The Guardian *
A Child of Books acknowledges the thrill of scary stories, the excitement of adventure narratives and the enchantment of fairy tales. It is both an invitation to succumb to the heady pleasures of reading, and a work of great beauty and imagination. * Eye Magazine *
