Few public intellectuals have had such a big impact outside the academy as Edward Said, whose work has been the subject of much debate and discussion over the last two decades. Abdirahman A. Hussein was born and educated in Somalia and currently teaches in the Department of English at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
