For more than thirty years, Walls worked as an editor in New Jersey, publishing over 400 publications on natural history themes, particularly reptiles and amphibians.
His thirty-eight volumes (twenty of which are about herps) cover anything from lizards and turtles as pets to huge reviews of seashells, boas and pythons, and toxic frogs. He has also served as the editor of Reptile Hobbyist magazine and currently contributes a monthly column to Reptiles. He is an avid birder who has collected over 600 U.S. species.
