Grammar, Structure, and Style by Shirley Russell
The revised edition of this successful book is a comprehensive resource for all AS and A Level English Language candidates, particularly those working with AQA/A, OCR and Edexcel specifications. Completely revised to match the new courses, it covers topics such as child acquisition of language, the language of the media, and language change. It also provides practical help and activities to support the editorial tasks and directed writing now required of Language students.
This book is a must for any school teaching A Level English Language, whatever the syllabus.. a wonderful resource for language activities and a reliable guide to the whole area of knowledge about language. * NATE New *
Help is at hand... Although it purports to be a textbook for 16-18 year-olds...it is also a self-help manual for teachers... * The Times *
This book is brilliant for any 'A' Level student - it clearly illustrates the important language factors with helpful examples. This was like a Bible through my 'A' Levels!! The theory of the English Language is explained in such a way that it is a big help when the exams come round. The key topics for the exams are covered, including: the origins of English, child language acquisition, semantics, media language, historical change and spoken English. But seriously, any student studying 'A' Level English should use this book as a fantastic guide to understand the important (and exam based) points of the many aspects of the English Language. * 4 Star Amazon Reviewer *
Actually, in an area where books are often very dry I found this to be far from it. Hoever, that's perhaps because I'm an English Teacher. The book is laid out superbly and is well-fitted to the AS and A2 strands of OCR and AQA English Language. This aspect of the course really contains the nuts and bolts of language study and is best used as a reference book rather than a straight 'text' book for students. * 5 Star Amazon Reviewer *
