The House of Rothschild by Niall Ferguson

The first scholar with unrestricted access to the surviving Rothschild archives, Niall Ferguson has produced a two volume history that reveals in absorbing detail the phenomenal economic success of this fascinating and secretive family. Ever since the house of Rothschild first rose to pre-eminence in the turbulent era of the Napoleonic wars, mythology has surrounded the family and its firms. They have been charged with financing revolutions and counter-revolutions and have been seen as the final arbiters of war and peace in Europe.
Niall Ferguson is one of Britain's most renowned historians. He is the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, a senior fellow of the Center for European Studies at Harvard University, and a Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing.
