The Life of a Car by Susan Steggall

Follow the life of a car from the production line, to being sold, driven, cleaned, crashed, mended, scrapped and finally recycled to make . . . another car! Featuring an assortment of brightly coloured vehicles including tow-trucks, transporters and lifting machines, this is the perfect book for all car and machine-mad readers. See if you can spot the little red mini from Susan's first book, ON THE ROAD, travelling through the book!

"Adding to a picture book series Susan Steggall’s The Life of a Car (Frances Lincoln) will enthral budding drivers as they follow, quite literally and with very simple language, the life of a car from production line to recycling!"

"The collage pictures that capture each stage of the car’s life are a million miles away from your average Heynes manual..The texture of the materials gives depth and movement -- perfect for the transport theme in this book -- The Life of a Car is a super book that is bound to find an enthusiastic audience amongst the under 6’s, particularly, though not exclusively, boys."

"Brilliant in its simplicity -- most children will love this, especially any budding mechanics."

Having initially trained as a graphic designer, Susan Steggall became a primary school teacher and taught young children for several years. After having her own two boys, she began work in a school library where she enjoyed finding out about new authors and illustrators and selecting beautiful new books for the shelves. As her boys grew up, she started making all sorts of pictures for them of the cars, trucks and trains they found so fascinating. After lots of experiments, the idea of using torn coloured and textured paper evolved.

Susan lives in the New Forest in Hampshire. She makes the collages for her picture books in a wooden workshop in the garden, listening to her favourite music and drinking extraordinary amounts of tea.
