The Little Oxford Dictionary of English Grammar by Sylvia Chalker

Designed to be easy to understand and easy to use, this dictionary contains all the accepted grammatical terms used in English today, as well as some of the old traditional names. Its A-Z format aims to make finding topics quick and simple, and its 20 tables help bring together related terms to show how grammar functions as a system and the examples throughout make grammatical ideas easy to grasp. A new appendix covers common problems in grammar and how to avoid them, including sections on subject-verb agreement, double negatives, problems with pronouns, punctuation, hanging participles, irregular verbs and correct verb tenses.

Bas Aarts is Professor of English Linguistics at University College London. He has published many books and articles on English grammar, most recently the Oxford Modern English Grammar.

The late Sylvia Chalker is the author of several grammar books, including Current English Grammar and The Little Oxford Dictionary of English Grammar. She was also a contributor to The Oxford Companion to the English Language.

Edmund Weiner is Deputy Chief Editor of the Oxford English Dictionary and co-author (with Andrew Delahunty) of the Oxford Guide to English Usage.
