He is the head of the creative writing program at LSU, where he also teaches a course in literature and publishing. His publications include the novels Modern Baptists, North Gladiola, Miss Undine's Living Room, Sort of Rich, Polite Sex, Guest of a Sinner, and Plain and Normal. His short stories have been published in The New Yorker, Avenue, and Louisiana Literature.
