New Monster in School by Sean O'reilly

Being the new kid at school is never easy, especially when you're a monster! Luckily, in Transylmania, the other kids are monsters too.
This book (RL: 15) introduces a new girl to the school, Kitsune. A Japanese mythical fox of folklore. Being new to a school isn't all that fun, but the girls except Kitsune right away, it's the boys who seem to have a problem. She's a fox, she's pink and she won the Mon-Star Prize at her last school. Vlad has always won the prize here. The story is about the animosity the boys have for Kitsune until they actually get to know her and the teacher comes up with a great way to show them that winning isn't always the most important thing. Very funny and cute. Love this series! 4/5 http://back-to-books.blogspot.com/2011/01/two-easy-reader-graphic-novels-by-stone.html * Back to Books Blog *
The graphic-novel series Mighty Mighty Monsters is set in Transylmania, where classic monsters are reimagined as schoolchildren. Vlad, Talbot, Witchita, Milton, Poto, Frankie, Igor, and Mary are all friends, but the first day of class brings someone new to Transylmania-Kitsune. She loves pink, she is cute, and she is a fox (literally, kitsune is the Japanese word for fox). Her arrival at school signals a new stage in the ongoing boy-girl rivalry, and Kitsune shows the boys she can top them at a lot of their sports. However, she really just wants to be friends. This new series is written by the founder of the Canadian independent comics publisher Arcana Studio, which is in turn credited with the video-game-like art. The kids may be monsters, but there's really nothing spooky about them as they go about regular school-type activities, making this a fine read for most younger readers. The book's design, with its faux-distressed look, adds another fun element, and readers will enjoy guessing all the monsters. * Booklist *
As a lifelong comics fan, Sean O'Reilly dreamed of becoming a comic book creator. In 2004, he realized that dream by creating Arcana Studio. In once short year, O'Reilly took his studio from a one-person operation in his basement to an award-winning comic book publisher with more than 150 graphic novels produced for Harper Collins, Simon & Schuster, Random House, Scholastic, and others. Within a year, the company won many awards including the Shuster Award for Outstanding Publisher and the Moonbeam Award for top children's graphic novel. O'Reilly also won the Top 40 Under 40 award from the city of Vancouver and authored The Clockwork Girl for Top Graphic Novel at Book Expo America in 2009. Currently, O'Reilly is one of the most prolific independent comic book writers in Canada. While showing no signs of slowing down in comics, he now writes screenplays and adapts his creations for the big screen.
