Frank McGuinness was born in Buncrana, Co. Donegal, and now lives in Dublin and lectures in English at University College Dublin. His plays include: The Factory Girls, Baglady, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Carthaginians (Abbey Theatre); Mary and Lizzie (RSC), Someone Who'll Watch Over Me (Hampstead, West End and Broadway), Mutabilitie (National Theatre), Dolly West's Kitchen (Abbey and Old Vic), Gates of Gold (Gate Theatre), Greta Garbo Came to Donegal (Tricycle Theatre), The Hanging Gardens (Abbey), The Visiting Hour (Gate) and Dinner With Groucho (Civic Belfast). His widely performed versions include plays by Ibsen, Chekhov, Lorca, Brecht, Sophocles, Strindberg, Euripides, Racine, Tirso de Molina and Molière, as well as James Joyce's The Dead.
