Research Skills for Nurses and Midwives by Sue Dyson
This book aims to provide nurses and midwives with a sound theoretical knowledge base for understanding, critically appraising and undertaking research in all areas of health service provision. A comprehensive insight is provided into philosophies, methodologies and methods relevant to health care, using examples from both professions. This new edition is expanded, more detailed and includes a new chapter which offers a 'how to do' section, which nurses and midwives, beginning to engage with research for the first time, will enjoy and find useful.
Very clear explanations eg hierarchies of evidence, qualitative overview of methods, data collection & analysis- Elizabeth Lawrence, Senior Lecturer, Middlesex University. The aims of this book, according to the authors, are 'to provide nurses and midwives with a sound theoretical knowledge base for understanding, critically appraising and undertaking research in all areas of health service provision.' The authors meet these worthy objectives... Chapter 9 describes the steps needed to 'do research in the real world.' Chapter 9 is the best chapter in this book, as it clearly and succinctly covers all the steps needed to conduct research. Because it is written for nurses and midwives in the UK, this book specifically discusses the UK healthcare system. It is a good resource for nurses and midwives in that country. - 4 star review by Michalene A King, PhD, RN, CNE (Duquesne University School of Nursing) on Doody Enterprises, Inc, USA, Book Review Service.
