Rough Guide Directions New York City by Martin Dunford

New York City Directions is a slim, stylish and accessible guide to everything that makes New York such an essential destination. The guide is full of ideas for stopovers and flying visits to North America's most lively city. The 28 full-colour double page spreads include such themes as, '24 hour New York', 'Film and TV locations', 'Hotel bars', 'Breakfast and Brunch spots' and 'skyscrapers'. Each selection is cross-referenced to its write-up later in the guide and its location is pinpointed on the associated maps. The "Places" section gives a district-by-district account of the city, allowing you to see everything in your immediate vicinity and opinionated writing picks out the highlights worth paying a visit to such as Brooklyn Heights, Coney Island and Bronx Zoo. The handy "Essentials" section covers everything from arrival and city transport to listings of cinemas and theatre venues.
Martin Dunford is a co-founder of Rough Guides and has authored Rough Guides to Belgium, Brussels, Holland, Rome and Italy -- and Amsterdam Directions. He still visits New York regularly when not watching Charlton play or training to sail around the world.
