It is set in China, and concerns the Chinese attempt to retain Hong Kong's financial assets when the colony falls to them in 1997. It follows the author's successful trilogy about the KGB.John Trenhaile is a barrister living in Ashdown Forest with his wife and two children. He was educated at Epsom College and at Magdalen, Oxford.
He first toured south-east Asia in 1982 and on each return trip has researched customs and cultures with the help of the many friends he has made there. He has been studying Mandarin for some years.
‘Kyril’, the first of the novels in his Russian ‘Povin’ trilogy, was filmed for television as ‘The Man Called Kyril’.
