Sharpening: A Woodworker's Guide by Randall A Maxey

This guide takes one of the most important aspects of maintaining a successful workshop and breaks it down into all of the key areas in an easily accessible manner. Keeping tools sharp is one of the most fundamentally important disciplines to master to ensure top-quality results. This book will show the reader how. Aimed at both those new to woodworking as well as the experienced woodworker, the book is broken down into three main sections: sharpening by hand; machine sharpening; and putting the theory into practice. Traditional sharpening techniques and tools are covered as well as those using the latest innovations for both hand and machine sharpening. Areas covered include: sharpening with oilstones, waterstones and diamond stones; correct methods for holding tools; power grinders and grinding wheels; and using jigs and tool rests.
Randall Maxey has been a woodworker since he was old enough to pick up a hammer. He appeared on the woodworking show Woodsmith Shop on PBS in the USA and was one of the editors for Woodsmith and ShopNotes magazines for ten years. He has also taught dozens of woodworking seminars and is joint author with Alan Goodsell of Woodworking Basics and Outdoor Woodworking Games, both published by GMC Publications. He lives in Florida, USA.
