Sources of Transformation by Edward Howells

A group of leading scholars has written a book arguing for the revitalisation of Christian spiritual traditions. Relying heavily on the spiritual genius of the great masters of the past - Augustine, Ignatius of Loyola, Teresa of Avila - this is also a book culturally attuned to men and women today. There are brilliant chapters on Samuel Beckett, Patrick Kavanagh, and Tony de Mello, and on the value of past classics for present spiritual growth. There is here no intellectual pirouetting - this is the theology of experience and of existential openness to transcendence.
This book is well worth the time and effort it takes to read and consider the analyses being offered.. Sources of Transformation does well in what it sets out to do. -- The Furrow
'The essays are of excellent quality and, written by eminent theologians such as James Alison, Bernard McGinn, David Lonsdale, Bernadette Flanagan and several others, they demand serious attention.' -- CR Quarterly Review
Attempting to reflect the variety in Christian approaches to transformation, this book is an eclectic collection of essays...Its diversity means that this collection is useful for anyone who wishes to broaden their appreciation of the variety of sources that might be used for transformative effect as well as some transformative approaches to these sources. -- Tara K. Soughers * Reviews in Religion & Theology *
