Sunny Side Down by Lev Yilmaz
Sunny Side Down: Tales of Mere Existenceis an illustrated cartoon book that explores the mundane, neurotic, and hilarious moments of life, and focuses on feelings of alienation, social confusion and perpetual self-doubt. Meet Lev: Call him a Psychology 101 action figure. He's just like any other young, urban sub-professional seeing the world through inch-thick goggles of self-consciousness. With occasionally inadvisable optimism, he's a super-hero whose only power is the ability to cope. The book's format will alternate between the narrative and the 'instructional'. The narrative will be straightforward stories with the Lev character (See "3 AM" and "Brand New Love"). The instructional will be ones of deeply cynical advice and social analysis (see "Ask Dr. Lev").

Lev Yilmaz began building a viral following for his "Tales of Mere Existence" in 2002. His films have appeared in Davy Rothbart's Found, on Comedy Central, at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, in the 2007 Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors showcase, and have won several Audience Choice awards including the one at the 2006 World of Comedy festival, and one at the Florida Film Festival in both 2006 and 2007.
