Ten Fat Sausages by Elke Zinsmeister

There are ten fat sausages sizzling in the pan, but they’re going fast! Can you count the sausages as they disappear – and can you see where they go? A book to stimulate observation and discussion, and an enjoyable introduction to number bonding. Ingenious die-cut holes in each page bring the number concepts in this favourite counting song to life. All children love this traditional rhyme and singing along will help to develop number skills. Bouncy illustrations, innovative die cutting and popular rhymes make Books with Holes a must for every child. Available in three formats, suitable for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and the nursery or classroom.
This is an entertaining, fun book suitable for Foundation and key stage 1, which introduces a number rhyme and counting in steps of two in an interactive and enjoyable wayThe rhyme begins with ten fat sausages sizzling in the pan but gradually the sausages go POP and BANG! The children in my reception class enjoyed counting the sausages as they disappeared and finding where they were shown in the attractive illustrations. Di cutting is used effectively from page to page to help children count forwards and backwards in steps of two, which makes the counting rhyme interactive and fun. I recommend this book to teachers as a useful numeracy resource and also as a good stimulus for observation and discussion. * English Four to Eleven, Summer 2007 *
A bit of a twist to the familiar counting song, in that the child can see where the sausages are going and the holes left when they disappear. Children love, and quickly master the repetitive singing game and with a large group the counting backwards can be demonstrated by using a diminishing throng of ten sausages (the children). They count how many are left after each verse. It encourages discussion and observation of numbers. Equally good one-to-one as in a large group. Colourful, playful illustrations help the text along. * Carousel *
