Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophical work Beyond Good and Evil questions conventional morality and intellectual assumptions. According to Nietzsche, conventional morality, which is founded on cultural and religious conventions, is constrictive and inhibits people from completely expressing who they really are. According to Nietzsche's will to power theory, people naturally want to use their power and influence to influence others. He also presents the notion of the superman, a mythical being free to choose their own moral standards and transcend conventional morality. Nietzsche criticises standard philosophical notions like the concept of truth and the notion of free will throughout the whole book. He contends that reality is relative and dependent on one's viewpoint, and that free will is an illusion produced by our need for control. While Beyond Good and Evil is difficult to read, it is nonetheless a significant contribution to contemporary philosophy. It inspires people to reconsider their convictions and look for a more genuine and satisfying existence outside of conventional cultural conventions.

Kenneth Grahame (Author)
Kenneth Grahame was born in Scotland in 1859. After the death of his mother he was sent to live with his grandparents in Berkshire and attended school in Oxford. On leaving school he worked at the Bank of England and also wrote articles and stories which he submitted to many publications.

He married in 1899 and had a son, Alastair. His best-known story, The Wind in the Willows, was published in 1908. After the sudden death of his son, Grahame was grief-stricken and became reclusive. He died in 1932 and is buried in Oxford.

Robert Ingpen (Illustrator)
Robert Ingpen was born in 1936 in Geelong, Australia. He studied illustration art and book design at The Royal Melbourne Institue of Technology. In 1986 he was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for his contribution to children's literature and he has been honoured with Membership of the Order of Australia.
A world-renowned artist and author, Ingpen has designed, illustrated and written more than one hundred books. His work includes his highly acclaimed series of illustrated children's classics, a unique achievement by one illustrator, which have now been published in many editions around the world.

Robert now lives and works in Barwon Heads, Australia, near his hometown of Geelong.
