However, while dealing with the most serious pandemic in a century in his professional life, he was also enduring challenges at home. His beloved wife of 25 years, Emer, was battling cancer, and died in February 2021. Born in Dublin and raised in Limerick, Dr Tony Holohan was educated at University College Dublin, where he met his wife, Emer Feely. During a successful career in public health he served as Chief Medical Officer in Ireland for 14 years, and is currently Adjunct Full Professor of Public Health at UCD, and a Non-Executive Board Member of the Irish Hospice Foundation. He lives in Dublin with his two children.
