A White Merc with Fins by James Hawes

Take four ne'er-do-wells - a 28-year-old ex-public schoolboy who can't bear the idea of settling down: Suzy the Black Widow, who has a deliciously flat stomach and drives like she's breathing through the carbs; Brady the Reservoir Dogs fetishist; and Chico the fat Portuguese waiter. Add some plastic guns, the IRA and a white Merc with fins and you have the plan. What plan? To walk into Michael Winner's private bank and walk out with half a million quid. Fast, clever, stylish, funny and utterly compulsive, this is a first novel with everything.
James Hawes was born in 1960 and raised in Gloucetsershire, Edinburgh and Shropshire, and educated at three comprehensive schools and Hertfrod College, Oxford. From 1983, he was variously a burden on the state, a cardless actor/playwright, and EFL teacher in Spain, a busker, a computer salesman and an archeologist before entering University College in London in 1978 to study for his PhD on Nietzsche and Kafka. He lectured in German at Maynooth, Ireland, from 1989-91 and now does so at University College, Swansea.
