The LJ evolved into the highly successful SJ series and Samurai models, which offered buyers a fun alternative to similarly priced hatchbacks and saloons, and bcome the first 'lifestyle' 4x4s on the market. When the Vitara appeared in 1989, it proved massively popular as an insurance-friendly alternative to a 'hot-hatch', and since then the Suzuki off-roader brand has gone from strength to strength. Paul Guinness has written for a number of leading motoring magazines, including Classic & Sports Car and Redline, and is currently a regular contributor to 4x4 Mart and Classic Car Mart.
