William Duckworth is an internationally renowned composer, respected American music teacher, and the inventor of Postminimalism. He has written over 200 works, including the well-known Time Curve Preludes for piano. His teaching has been described as trendy, bright, and original by Rolling Stone magazine, in addition to other teaching accolades. Duckworth was named one of America's Six Master Instructors by the American Music Society. Cathedral is also one of the first interactive works of music and art on the Web, co-created with Nora Farrell and available since 1997. Duckworth's awards include the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Internet Award in 2001, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts' Award in Music in 2002, and a 2007 Senior Fulbright Specialist Award, which placed him at the Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre in Brisbane, Australia, and culminated in iOrpheus, Duckworth and Farrell's two-year project that included video podcasts, stage performances, and a public opera.
