Bridegroom by James Zafris
BRIDEGROM, a Greek/Romanian, banished from Romania as the Cold War intensifies, arrives in Athens and is recruited; first by the CIA, and later by the KGB, unbeknown to each other. Believing he can outwit the KGB by concocting a fictitious agent network, he embarks on a perilous tightrope walk between the two intelligence services.
His relationship with a young American CIA case officer and his KGB handler reveal the inner-workings within both intelligence services. The story unfolds in early 1950's, when Greece is torn by violent street riots as demonstrators support the political union between Greece and Cyprus, ignoring the risk of possible armed conflict with Turkey as a consequence.
