HEPPENHEIMER is the author of ten books, including Countdown: A History of Space Flight (Wiley) and Turbulent Skies: The History of Commercial Aviation (Wiley), which is under development as a four--part series on PBS. He holds a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan and is an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Aerospace. A freelance writer, Heppenheimer lives in Fountain Valley, California.
