During the 1640s, the kingdoms ruled by Charles I - England and Wales, Scotland and Ireland - were gripped by a series of civil wars and conflicts which were, in part, distinct to each kingdom, but which also overlapped and inter-related, leading some British historians to portray them as a single 'British' conflict. Gaunt, Peter: - Peter Gaunt is currently Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Chester. Previous academic posts have been held held at the universities of Wales and London and at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Professor Gaunt is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Chairman of The Cromwell Association and has contributed to a range of TV and radio programmes on aspects of Cromwellian and civil war history.
