{"product_id":"new-space-futures-book-peter-timko-9781041300137","title":"New Space Futures","description":"This book explores the diverse ambitions, tensions, and curious entanglements of the new space economy through an ethnographic lens. The world has entered a new space age. Driven by a complex confluence of political, economic, and technological developments, this new space era is characterized by an expanding volume of space-bound activity as both state and private actors strive to build capacity in orbit and beyond. Drawing on three years of research and fieldwork around the world, this study features sites ranging from Paris and Tokyo to the Republic of Mauritius. Tracing connections between business parks and satellites, crowded bars and remote construction sites, each chapter offers insight into the people and groups drawn into space operations, the contexts in which they work, and the futures they envision. Using multi-sited and relational ethnographic techniques, this text unravels the social conditions and shared imaginaries that are remaking space as an economic sphere. With detailed vignettes and sharp analysis, the work shows that even as the extra-terrestrial becomes amenable to commerce and private investors, the trajectory of the new space age is far from certain, and its future will have pressing implications for life on Earth. The book is relevant to scholars of anthropology and sociology, as well as others with an interest in technology and society and the social study of outer space.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":67619347169553,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":67619347726609,"sku":"NGR9781041300137","price":228.49,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/products\/new-space-futures-book-peter-timko-9781041300137","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
