Paint Like Monet by James Heard

Most people's first experience of art is to admire the work of past masters. But how did our great artists achieve their effects? Choose their materials? Define their approach? In this innovative new art series, experienced artists of today use the work of some of their most famous forebears as a starting point for teaching technique, methods and skill. Monet's unique approach to painting allowed a new under-standing of light, composition and form. Learning how his paintings were conceived, constructed, and executed, and the theories behind impressionism can provide a new perspective on the world around us and how this can be portrayed in artistic terms. A source of practical inspiration for anyone interested in art, Paint Like Monet will allow you to take tips and lessons from one of the world's great masters and to use this invaluable knowledge as a starting point to develop your own personal approach.
James Heard is a Public Programmes Manager at the National Portrait gallery and a practicing artist. He is an established art critic and well recognised by museum curators for his skill in accurately reconstructing impressionist techniques, particularly those of Monet. He is a regular speaker and lecturer internationally and had made a number of educational videaos, especially in conjunction with the National Gallery series, 'Art in the Making'.
