This comprehensive book brings together in one volume veterinary-approved advice on cat care and coverage of the world's cat breeds. Part one, "Caring for Your Cat", opens with a brief history of the cat and goes on to cover in detail every important topic that any responsible owner needs to be aware of. There is advice on choosing and buying a cat, inoculations for kittens and providing a safe environment indoors and out. There are also major sections on feeding and nutrition, grooming and training and essential health care, all supported by step-by-step instructions. Part two, "The Breeds", is a broad visual encyclopaedia of all the main cat breeds, from the ever-popular Persians and Shorthairs to rarer breeds such as the Main Coon Cat, Ocicat and Ragdoll. Each breed has a breed box giving defining characteristics, such as coat texture, eye colour, average size and temperament. There is also a final section on showing and breeding.
Alan Edwards has been a judge with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy in Great Britain for over 27 years. he continues to be an international judge in Europe, as well as International Guest Judge with the Cat Fanciers Federation in the United States.
