Yukimura made his debut in 2000 with the critically acclaimed Planetes, which was serialized in Kodansha Weekly Morning and adapted by Sunrise into a 26-episode animation series. He formerly served as Shin Morimura's assistant. He is now working on Vinland Saga, which was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine for a while before being shifted to the monthly Afternoon magazine owing to pacing issues. He won the Grand Prize in the manga category at the 2009 Japan Media Arts Festival for this work.
The author is based in the Japanese city of Yokohama.
