Your Home in Cross Stitch by Barbara Thompson
The home and its various aspects has traditionally formed the inspiration and central theme for samplers worked with cross-stitch. This book takes both beginners and experienced stitchers alike a stage further, with basic techniques, step-by-step design instructions, complete charts and collections of individual motifs for creating original cross-stitch pictures of their own homes, both inside and out. Various features, such as elegant rooms, gardens and conservatories, street and surroundings, can be translated into a stitched record, full of the detail and finishing touches that can turn each finished piece into a family heirloom. And for those who would like to start with a ready-made design, charts and colour photographs of the finished projects are provided throughout, allowing the more ambitious to adapt a further range of motifs for their own designs.
Thompson, Barbara G.: - Barbara Thompson was a commercial and fine art photographer with a studio in S.O.M.A., South of Market, in San Francisco for several years. She holds a B.F.A. and an M.F.A. in fine art photography and has photographs included in the Permanent Collection at the SF Museum of Modern Art. Perhaps it was the visual training and her love of reading fiction that got her started imagining how scenes might be described in a book. Although still a devotee of Adobe Photoshop, she now spends most of her time creating her characters and the scenes, which she imagines in her stories. Barbara believes that seeing her character step into a world of long-ago that she has created is the best part. Then, adding a bit of magic to that character's life helps bring the story alive.
