Taking On the World Summary

Taking On the World by Ellen MacArthur

In finishing yachting's toughest race, the Vendee Globe, Ellen MacArthur became the youngest person ever to complete the race and the fastest woman ever to circumnavigate the globe. The scenes that greeted her arrival were extraordinary; thousands of people lined the waterfront in France to cheer 'La Petite Anglaise'. This is her story so far. Dramatic and and deeply affecting, it will move and inspire all who read it.

About Ellen MacArthur

Inspired by a sailing trip with her aunt at the age of eight, Ellen MacArthur saved her school dinner money for three years to buy her first boat. She went on to win the Young Sailor of the Year award aged 18. Three years later she won the 1998 Sailor of the Year award after winning a single-handed trans-Atlantic race. She's from Whatstandwell in Derbyshire.
