This new, independent guidebook to Manchester city centre is pocket-sized, easy to dip into and thoroughly researched. Its 104 pages contain detailed recommendations of places to shop (from boutique shops to high-end retail outlets), eat (from the best place to get brunch to smart restaurants) and drink (from traditional pubs to late night drinking dens). It also looks at Manchester's thriving arts scene, and contains a section on its renowned music industry. The listings in this section cover both established music venues, such as the classical Bridgewater Hall or the vast Manchester Arena, as well as underground venues, such as a working church in Salford that doubles up as a live music venue. The book also lists museums, galleries, theatres and historic libraries, and gives practical travel information - such as recommendations of places to stay, as well as public transport, parking and other tourist information. The book is brought to life via specially commissioned photography and illustration, and, alongside listings, contains several other useful sections. The first is a series of three itineraries; suggestions for how best to spend a day, a night and a weekend in Manchester respectively. The second is a series of "highlights", which include the curious (from the world's oldest angling club to the Manchester Egg), high-rise architecture, things to do for families, and the city centre's best parks, gardens and outdoor spaces. A fold out street map, plus an illustrated city centre districts section, makes both book and the city easily navigable for the reader.
