Dewsbury Through Time Summary

Dewsbury Through Time by John Ketton

Dewsbury, in West Yorkshire, although situated close to Wakefield, Huddersfield and Leeds, is by no means shadowed by its surrounding areas. After major growth during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when the area transformed into a mill town, such industry began to decline in the following centuries. That said, old mills have since been converted into flats and the community spirit of Dewsbury lives strong. The area is particularly prominent in the 'Heavy Woollen District' and also has a fantastic museum, which can be found in the Crows Nest Park Mansion House. As a thriving town, full of hidden curiosities, the history of many areas around the community will be revealed in full colour to show how the town has transformed over the years in Dewsbury Through Time.

About John Ketton

He is currently the Chairman of Dewsbury Matters and has produced and written many articles over the last ten years for their annual booklet. He often gives talks on local history to groups in the area, of which he very well-known and respected.
