A witty but ultimately tragic satire about Polish society, this remarkable play is set around the celebrations of a wedding between a poet from the city of Krakov and a peasant girl from a rural village.

Celebrated playwright, distinguished painter and poet, Stanislaw Wyspianski (1869-1907) has long been recognised by his compatriots as an outstanding dramatist whose influence on modern Polish theatre has been second to none. The Cracow premiere of The Wedding in 1901 was a sensation which won the author nationwide acclaim and a permanent place among his country's literary greats. Hardly a year passes in Poland without a new production of the play.
