About Alan Brownjohn

Alan Brownjohn is well known as poet, novelist and critic; he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Writers' Guild of Great Britain in 2007. Born in 1931, he was educated at Merton College, Oxford and worked as a teacher and lecturer for twenty-five years. He has been a freelance writer and broadcaster since 1978, publishing four novels (including the prizewinning The Way You Tell Them in 1990, and Windows on the Moon in 2009), and has reviewed poetry for the New Statesman, Encounter and The Sunday Times. Eleven individual volumes of verse were represented in his Collected Poems (Enitharmon Press, 2006), and a twelfth, Ludbrooke and Others, followed in 2010. The Saner Places (2011) contains his personal choice of poems from all of these books.
