The Brigadier's Outcast Summary

The Brigadier's Outcast by Anthony Conway

The experimental British airship D100 has disappeared, believed lost with all hands. But when mysterious reports reach London in 1929 that it has been seen, the Air Ministry needs to send someone to British Guyana. Someone brave, resourceful and expendable like Captain John Caspasian of the Twelfth Gurkhas.

Soon Caspasian is on board the lost airship s luxurious sister-vessel, floating over the Atlantic clouds in the company of the rich and adventurous, among them a beautiful Hollywood starlet. But also on board is a ruthless saboteur. And waiting in the wings is Caspasian s old enemy Brigadier Percival.

Before long, Caspasian will have to summon up all his cunning and endurance to rescue his fellow passengers.

Once again, Anthony Conway has brilliantly evoked the farthest reaches of the British Empire at the height of its power and the reckless heroism of its professional soldiers.

The Brigadier's Outcast Reviews

Rip-roaring adventure fiction featuring the Gurkha officer Captain John Caspasian. The year is 1929 and an experimental British airship has gone missing, believed destroyed. But reports reach London that the ship has been seen in British Guyana, so the Air Ministry despatches the intrepid Caspasian to investigate. Travelling across the Atlantic on another luxurious airship, he encounters his arch enemy Brigadier Percival, and. well, you get the picture. This is the fourth outing for the fictional hero Caspasian, but the author was himself a Gurkha officer and the authenticity of the military material is compelling. And the story rattles along at a cracking pace, reminiscent of the Indiana Jones movies. But the real appeal is nostalgic, brilliantly recreating the lost world of the British Empire.
