This is a second anthology in which a group of countrymen recall their lives, detailing personal trials and triumphs, from fighting in the trenches during the Great War to receiving the long-service medal from The Queen. Along the way, these characters have met the wealthy and famous, and been party to great sporting occasions, but above all they have been fired by a love of the outdoor life. They record their encounters with wildlife, and also family life as it used to be, with few luxuries but a real sense of community in the countryside.
