Summary
A novel focusing mainly on the Nottinghamshire of Lawrence's youth, remembering the community and its inhabitants. It is the story of Alvina's rebellion against the ordinariness of life. She undertakes a wild affair with a vaudeville actor and then escapes to a more fulfilling life in Italy.
