This is a core unit for National Curriculum History, aimed at Y8. It offers an innovative approach to the study unit, "The Making of the UK". Enquiry-based pupils' tasks are provided to help pupils of all abilities progress in their historical understanding. There is further support material available for slower learners in the Special Needs Support Materials to be published in 1995. This material is part of the "Discovering the Past" series, an integrated set of full-colour textbooks covering National Curriculum History. The first book in the series, "Discovering Medieval Realms" won the 1993 TES Textbook Award. The book is also published as part of SHP's National Curriculum coursebook, "Societies in Change". It is being made available in 1995 in the light of the Dearing Review of National Curriculum History. The teacher's notes have been revised for the new curriculum requirements.
