This dictionary has been compiled from the Bank of English, Collins' database of over 320 million words of written and spoken English. New words have been collected and defined in the Collins language monitoring programme. As well as the usual wide range of entries, there is a specialist vocabulary from computing, science and technology, and other specialist subjects. Usage notes have been provided for extra help, giving advice on words that are often confused, and on acceptable and unacceptable usage, based on the findings of the Bank of English. The dictionary also includes the "Good Writing Guide" - a supplement full of tips and rules on how to write correct, clear, and effective English. It also gives guidance on spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
