He was then ordained into the Church of England and moved up to become Bishop of Lincoln. He was a man of passionate personal holiness and believed strongly in the role of the church as an agent for social reform. Simon Phipps died in April 2001 and this book is a tribute to the enormous respect and affection that he commanded.
