This is the first edition of the medieval Chester cycle - twenty-four plays dramatizing the history of the world from Creation to Doomsday -to be based on all eight extant manuscripts. Drawing on his earlier scholarly editon of the plays for the Early English Text Society (with R.M. Lumiansky), Professor Mills here presents a simplified edition of the full text. Especially helpful for the student and general reader are the marginal glosses, the brief introductory essays to each play, and the use of modern English spelling and punctuation throughout.
