This volume consists of 13 biographical studies of people from the middle ranks of society, derived from memoirs, diaries or letters, showing how their lives were affected by Scotland's mid-17th-century wars, and re-constructing their characters. New perspectives on major events emerge from a study of their impact on these individuals, for personal experience is central to history, and these are lives from the troubles - one of the key periods of Scottish history.
