Fred Summary

Fred: Then and Now by Don Mosey

During his Yorkshire and England career in the 1950s and 1960s, Fred Trueman became one of the greatest of all fast bowlers and the first cricketer to take 300 Test Match wickets - at a time when fewer Tests were played than is the case today. His bowling was characterized by speed and aggression, but he was also a fine technician and, like Ray Lindwall, whom he greatly admired, a master of the late outswinger. Trueman was, in addition, a controversial character who since retirement has remained in the public eye as a newspaper critic, broadcaster and television personality. This biography, by a friend and broadcasting colleague, looks at the bowler with admiration and at the man with affection. Don Mosey also wrote the biographies "Boycott" and "Botham".
