Life there may be hard, but it's better than the one he's left behind, especially when he teams up with an older homeless man called Billy. A Small Free Kiss In The Dark Reviews

This Young Adult novel is the bittersweet story of runaway Skip who is living on the streets of an unnamed country when war breaks out. A boy without a home of his own, Skip finds an unlikely family among other outcasts. The book is written in a simple, direct style that makes the subject matter all the more painful. Skip is an artist and through his eyes we see the world in terms of light and colour - there is some beautiful, evocative imagery. The characters are finely drawn and engaging. A difficult subject is tackled sensitively and the writer manages to find beauty and hope even amid the brutality of war. * Newbooks *
A Small Free Kiss In The Dark is both sad and hopeful in equal measures. I found it an emotional and thought provoking book, beautifully written in Skip's young voice which is captured with startling authenticity. * Unknown *
